I have to admit that Hereditary was one of the few films that really disturbed me and was absolutely a highlight of 2018 for that very reason. The filmmaker behind that project, Ari Aster, has a new film coming to screens later this year, the first trailer for which has just debuted. Introducing Midsommar.
Midsommar is written and directed by Aster, and boasts a cast that includes Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper, Vilhelm Blomgran, Archie Madekwe, Ellora Torchia, and Will Poulter.
I can’t too much online in regards to the plot, but this is from the film’s Wikipedia page.
A couple travels to Sweden to visit their friend’s rural hometown for its fabled mid-summer festival. What begins as an idyllic retreat quickly devolves into an increasingly violent and bizarre competition at the hands of a pagan cult.
This looks as disturbing as Aster’s last film. The festivities begin later this year. Here’s the trailer.
