Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts is officially in talks to direct the sequel for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios. Spider-Man: Homecoming has been out there for around two weeks now, and after glowing reviews, pretty much across the board, bagged over $470 million in box-office revenue (and climbing).
The Hollywood Reporter reports the news of Watts’ potential involvement in the sequel, which already has a release date set for the summer of 2019.
Spider-Man: Homecoming was the first stand-alone movie for Tom Holland in the title role, who starred alongside the likes of Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Robert Downey Jr. and Marisa Tomei. Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley, Jon Watts & Christopher Ford, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers wrote the movie.
The sequel will release on July 5th, 2019. More as it comes in.
