Cannes favourite The Killing Of Sacred Deer has secured a UK release by Curzon Artificial Eye. The film, which we raved about at the May festival, will debut in the middle of awards season in the UK on November 17th, 2017.
Acclaimed director Yorgos Lanthimos recruited a stellar cast, led by Colin Farrell (The Lobster, Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them) and Academy Award® winner Nicole Kidman (Lion, Big Little Lies, The Hours), for the darkly disturbing thriller, which is set to wow audiences this winter.
Steven (Colin Farrell), an eminent cardiothoracic surgeon is married to Anna (Nicole Kidman), a respected ophthalmologist. They are well off and live a happy and healthy family life with their two children, Kim, 14 (Raffey Cassidy) and Bob, 12 (Sunny Suljic).
Steven has formed a friendship with Martin (Barry Keoghan), a fatherless sixteen-year-old boy whom he has taken under his wing. Things take a sinister turn when Steven introduces Martin to his family, gradually throwing their world into turmoil and forcing Steven to make a shocking sacrifice or run the risk of losing everything.
The Killing Of A Sacred Deer was filmed in Cincinnati, Ohio and reunites Colin Farrell with writer / director / producer Yorgos Lanthimos, following the critical and commercial success of The Lobster.
This from our original review.
Chilling, with obvious influences from everything from Stephen King to Kubrick, The Killing Of A Sacred Deer is absorbing, beautifully shot with a wonderful rousing score, bloody nasty, and strangely funny in a way that only Lanthimos can deliver – and is actually a definite step-up from The Lobster which already sat high in our estimations. While that one was blamed for running out of steam and ideas towards the end, the same certainly cannot be said for his follow-up.
The Killing Of A Sacred Deer will be released simultaneously in the UK & Ireland on 17 November by Curzon Artificial Eye.
