The internet was sent into into a little bit of frenzy last week when Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller seemingly revealed that he was done with the franchise.
After last years critically acclaimed (and Oscar nominated) film, it was understandably upsetting to hear that the man to bring Max back to the big screen is now finished with the character. Thankfully however, Miller has now backtracked on his initial comments by clarifying that he does intend on filming two additional installments….at some point.
Here’s the truth from the man:
“That was a completely garbled interview. I was in New York and it was so noisy and the journalist was asking me questions on a red carpet at the National Board of Review,” he said. “She completely got the wrong fragments of information that were just not true. I said no, [another ‘Mad Max’ movie] will not be next, and she took that to mean I never wanted to make another ‘Mad Max.’ It won’t necessarily be next, but I have two more stories.’
So there you have it! Miller already has two story ideas to round out his new trilogy, but would clearly like to spread his wings in a slightly different direction first. With Tom Hardy reportedly signed on for the entire trilogy, fans can breathe a sigh of relief that both director and star will return.
Unfortunately audiences will just have to wait a few years before they can feast their eyes on more adrenaline-fueled, post-apocalyptic mayhem. Although I’m sure that there is absolutely no doubt in anyone’s minds that the eventual sequel will live up to (or exceed) its predecessor.
