Sony Pictures to adapt The Girl In The Spider’s Web

Here’s an interesting one. A few years ago, Sony Pictures took Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara and adapted Stieg Larsson‘s brilliant novel The Girl With The Dragon’s Tattoo. The film, of course, was also made into a Scandinavian movie with Noomi Rapace in a career breaking role; a film which is definitely the better version.

Rather than adapting The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet’s Nest, Sony are moving to the recently published The Girl In The Spider’s Web, and have hatched plans to bring that to the screen. The book, which was published just this year, was written by David Lagercrantz after Larsson sadly passed away.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news, and have also stated that both Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara would not be back for the film as they are trying to keep costs down. Steven Knight, the brilliant scfreenwriter behind this week’s Burnt, the upcoming World War Z movie sequel and Locke, is said to be adapting the novel.

David Fincher, who helmed the Hollywood remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, is also not expected to return.

Alicia Vikander (The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Ex Machina) is the hot fave to take the role of Lisbeth Salander in the film, replacing Mara.

Here’s the plot of The Girl In The Spider’s Web.

“Late one night, Blomkvist receives a phone call from a source claiming to have information vital to the United States. The source has been in contact with a young female superhacker—a hacker resembling someone Blomkvist knows all too well. The implications are staggering. Blomkvist, in desperate need of a scoop for Millennium, turns to Salander for help. She, as usual, has her own agenda. The secret they are both chasing is at the center of a tangled web of spies, cybercriminals, and governments around the world, and someone is prepared to kill to protect it…”
