When you give the cinematic world the biggest hit of the year the world is your oyster. Colin Trevorrow is finding this out after having delivered Jurassic World, the fourth instalment in a franchise that had been put to rest for over a decade. It was a big surprise, given that his previous effort was the tiny and charming Safety Not Guaranteed.
Trevorrow has been announced as the third and final director of the latest Star Wars trilogy. Following on from director J.J. Abrams and Rian Johnson. He will take on the helm of Star Wars: Episode IX. Speaking about working with Trevorrow producer Kathleen Kennedy had this to say:
[quote_box_center]Colin is someone I’ve been interested in working with ever since I saw Safety Not Guaranteed. The power of that film paired with the enormous success of Jurassic World speaks volumes about his abilities both as a storyteller and skilled film-maker.[/quote_box_center]
Meanwhile Trevorrow is understandably excited also:
[quote_box_center]It is a seat at a campfire, surrounded by an extraordinary group of storytellers, film-makers, artists and craftspeople. We’ve been charged with telling new stories for a younger generation because they deserve what we all had – a mythology to call their own. We will do this by channelling something George Lucas instilled in all of us: boundless creativity, pure invention and hope.[/quote_box_center]
Star Wars is looking healthier than ever, and as a long time fan I can’t wait to see the new developments in both the new trilogy and the many spin-off films coming our way.
Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens is released this Christmas, with Episode VIII following two years after that, and Trevorrow‘s effort two years after that.
Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
