Peter Pan has given us just about every kind of spin-off tale imaginable. From needless but enjoyable sequels, to spin-offs dedicated to Tinkerbell, and even a biopic on the creator of it all. Now it’s time for the obligatory ‘untold’ origin.
PAN sees Peter first arrive in Neverland, where it transpires he was once friends with Hook before his hook handed days. Peter and friends must take on the evil and menacing Blackbeard, who threatens to ruin Neverland forever.
Directed by the brilliant Joe Wright, and containing some stunning and imaginative visuals, the latest trailer puts me off a bit by focusing on a prophecy storyline. I’m sick of prophecy storylines, finding them bland and repetitive, especially when thrust into classic tales such as ALIVE IN WONDERLAND. Hopefully there’s a neat little twist where Peter goes against the prophecy.
I’m also unsure of Garrett Hedlund’s performance, finding his delivery awkward and a little too cartoonish against the rest of the cast. However, these are only trailers and I hope it all comes together in the end.
PAN is released on 9th October in the US and 16th October in the UK. It stars Levi Miller, Hugh Jackman, Garrett Hedlund, Rooney Mara, and Amanda Seyfried.
Luke likes many things, films and penguins being among them. He's loved films since the age of 9, when STARGATE and BATMAN FOREVER changed the landscape of modern cinema as we know it. His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies. His favourite films include SEVEN SAMURAI, PASSION OF JOAN OF ARC, IN BRUGES, LONE STAR, GODZILLA, and a thousand others.
