Writer/director J.J. Abrams has been showing off some more of his toys in the latest video instalment of the Star Wars: Force For Change charity campaign drive in support of UNICEF. Having shown us a Tatooine-based character, we now get to gawp at one of the franchise’s definitive space vehicles – The X-Wing.
Check out a decidedly George Costanza-esque Abrams making an announcement from the landing gear…
While it’s hardly a surprise that this and the Millennium Falcon will feature, it’s still a giddy thrill to see the presence of such iconic imagery. The helmer has also offered a second top prize – an advance screening for you and 20 friends a week before the release. And not only that but the show will come to you! With the original top prize of being invited onto the set to make your very own cameo, this doesn’t so much sweeten the deal as dump a consignment of Tate & Lyle onto a single ant. All you have to do is donate $10, not a bad return for your bucks.
A joint project between Disney, Lucasfilm, Bad Robot and Omaze, the drive ends on Friday. Details of how to contribute are in the video and here.
STAR WARS: EPISODE VII will be released on December 18th 2015.

This is not an X-Wing. It’s clearly derived from the classic fighter but X-Wings have smaller dual turbines on each side (one on each wing, actually). Also, the wings don’t seem to be able to split in two.
