The United Nations are to be mined for comic value as Steve Carell gets set to produce INTERNATIONAL INCIDENT, starring Community‘s Ken Jeong. With a script by David Javerbaum (The Daily Show) you might think we have a political hot potato on our hands.
However, the story sounds like it’s running along more conventional lines, as a group of UN delegates go on a road trip in search of true love. With the track record of those involved, expect plenty of falling over and puking – though in fairness the intelligent Carell’s Carousel Productions are handling the project, so we could be seeing a more considered approach than most. Carousel execs Charlie Hartsock and Vance Degeneres (who sound like characters from ANCHORMAN) helped get the project in the door at Summit Entertainment.
Jeong is an unknown quantity as a comic lead but certainly got everyone’s attention as THE HANGOVER’s genuinely bananas Leslie Chow. He can be heard in upcoming THE PENGUINS OF MADAGASCAR. Meanwhile, Carell goes into dramatic mode front of camera for FOXCATCHER.
