Clearest Look Yet At ‘Ninja Turtles’ In Promo Poster

Earlier today we brought you the first glance at the new CGI designs for the forthcoming reboot of those “heroes in a half shell” – the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES (as well as William Fichtner’s villain Shredder). However, we’ve now a clearer image via some toy artwork featuring the awesome, ass-kicking foursome of Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael and Michelangelo.

While the Platinum Dunes production has had a rocky road in bringing the sewer-dwelling vigilantes back to the big screen, fans may be impressed with the classic mean look (especially Raphael) of Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird’s original cult comics obviously offering more than a little inspiration!

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES is set for US cinemas 8th August, the UK 17th October and is directed by Jonathan Liebsman. It stars Megan Fox, Will Arnett, Pete Ploszek, Noel Fisher, Alan Ritchson, Jeremy Howard and Danny Woodburn.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Can’t even use their full title for this one, just NInja Turtles… but they’re aliens, so technically they’re NOT turtles either. Maybe ninjas if we can say they’ve been raised by a ninja master but if there’s no ninja master, they’re not ninjas either. Then the title (even with the adjustments) would be a lie.

I think they look decent. They look angry because they have a bandana on that give them a intimidating look.

Well technically they are an alien species. they are neither human nor are they normal turtles there for they are an alien species but Bay got his idea for an alien species from the original creators statements such as this one from Kevin Eastman” As soon as[TMNT co-creator Peter Laird] and i had freedom,we too the turtles into space and introduced the TCRI aliens[a.k.a the Ultroms] and then we took you to the origin of the ooze, so they(the turtles) have alien origins, they are from outer space…[Ninja Turtles] has to be well grounded in history and lore, we don’t wanna take that away from fans”

For those of you who are complaining about the possibility of them being aliens in the movies. Bay got his idea from the original creators of TMNT such as a statement from Kevin Eastman who said this” As soon as[TMNT co-creator Peter Laird] and i had freedom,we too the turtles into space and introduced the TCRI aliens[a.k.a the Ultroms] and then we took you to the origin of the ooze, so they(the turtles) have alien origins, they are from outer space…[Ninja Turtles] has to be well grounded in history and lore, we don’t wanna take that away from fans”

I second this. They actually look solid, and on the final designs – looks like they all have salvaged, second-hand gear. I am willing to give it a chance.

I also just realised, why’s Donatello wearing glasses?

Nothing against glasses – obviously – but how’d he get that prescription?

    Unless that’s the plot…BAAAAY!

6-foot-tall talking turtles with weapons that walk upright & are trained in various martial arts by a talking sewer rat. Why not?

Maybe they aren’t teenagers in this one. And I thought splinter was gonna be in the movie? There’s your ninja master. They’re not aliens in this movie, either. They’re going back to them just being created the usual way. Some new pet baby turtles get into some alien ooze, then the baby turtles mutate into humanoids, because the last animal they came into contact with was the human who bought them as a group. Same goes for Splinter (if he’s involved). The last animal he came into contact with was a rat, so when he touched the ooze, he mutated into a rat-man, and that’s when he found the turtles. Why they took to the sewers, I still don’t understand. As many empty, abandoned, secluded buildings as there are, and always will be, in New York, they chose to live in the place where peoples’ shit gets filtered through? I hope that’s not what they’ve been drinking, or worse, bathing with. That would be an unfortunate tagline. “Heroes in a white bowl, poopy power.”

It still doesn’t really explain why they chose to live in the New York sewer when they live in a city filled to hell & back with abandoned apartment complexes & old warehouses that don’t get used anymore. It’s not a tough decision to make, is it? Live in an entire empty street in a building that used to be a 5-star hotel, or move to the sewer, where they have to walk through pounds of knee-high human excrement just to catch a breath of fresh air. Gee, I wonder which sounds better…
