It was red carpet time again last night in Los Angeles when the Hollywood elite headed to the Screen Actors Guild Awards. The big winner of the night was AMERICAN HUSTLE, which took the top award for outstanding ensemble cast in a motion picture, however it was Matthew McConaughey who nabbed Best Actor for DALLAS BUYERS CLUB making an Oscar win very much more likely after scoring his second award in a week following Sunday’s Golden Globes. Cate Blanchett also added to her Golden Globe win last week with Best Actress for BLUE JASMINE, while Jared Leto and Lupita Nyong’O took supporting gongs for DALLAS BUYERS CLUB and 12 YEARS A SLAVE.
Breaking Bad was king of TV bagging the ensemble award for its cast, and Bryan Cranston also took the outstanding male actor in a drama series. Britain’s own Helen Mirren also scored a win for the underrated Phil Spector, while Dame Maggie Smith took home the award for outstanding female actor in a drama series for Downton Abbey.
