Alejandro Gonzalez will no longer be directing the upcoming Warner Bros. adaptation of Rudyard Kiplings 1894 novel, THE JUNGLE BOOK. Citing scheduling conflicts, it is believed Gonzalez will be focusing on his western revenge film titled THE REVENANT. Gonzalez, who is most famous for his work AMORES PERROS, BABEL and 21 GRAMS, has recently finished shooting his comedy BIRDMAN, which stars Michael Keaton as an actor once famous for portraying a superhero.
Warner Bros. are not the only company wishing to retell the tale of wild boy Mowgli, who is raised by wolves and makes friends with the animals, as Disney are setting about making another adaptation. The House of Mouse has previously produced two separate versions of the tales including the 1967 animated feature we’re all familiar with, as well as the 1994 live-action version. Jon Favreau is set to direct Disney’s latest addition, while daughter of Steve Kloves, Callie Kloves will write Warner Bros.’ attempt.
