I’m quite looking forward to director Stuart Beattie’s adaptation of UNDERWORLD creator Kevin Grevioux’s cult graphic novel, I, FRANKENSTEIN. Especially having seen the director, creator and stars Aaron Eckhart and Yvonne Strahovski speak so passionately about the supernatural thriller at San Diego Comic Con. However, something seems amiss with the project and much like Universal’s almost abandonment of 47 RONIN, there is a sense a January release and little promotion for an effects-heavy actioner speaks volumes about Lionsgate’s hopes for this one.
Fingers crossed it’s not all bad and Eckhart is always watchable but here we have a couple of television spots and an international poster for the film that centres on Mary Shelley’s iconic creation having survived in a dystopic present day thanks to a genetic quirk. Unfortunately, Adam as he’s now known, finds himself caught in the middle of a centuries old war between gargoyles and demons.
I, FRANKENSTEIN co-stars Bill Nighy, Socratis Otto, Miranda Otto, Jai Courtney, Mahesh Jadu, Caitlin Stasey and Aden Young. It will be unleashed in cinemas from 24th January.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
