Marvel are certainly stealing the headlines lately, with news that their new television series AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. has been picked up for a full 22 episode season and that they are considering both Paul Rudd and Joseph Gordon-Levitt for the role of Ant-Man in Edgar Wrights upcoming film.
Now comes word that Marvel are in early stages of developing a package of 60 episodes containing four new series and a mini series that is being shopped around both Netflix and Amazon. This move is likely in response to the overwhelming success of AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D. and the high ratings the show has received thus far. Whether any of these new series will be the recently rumoured show based on Hayley Atwell’s Peggy Carter remains to be seen, however I would say the chances are good after the success of the ‘Agent Carter’ one shot that can be found on the IRON MAN 3 Blu Ray. Here’s what we heard:
‘I hear that Marvel is quietly putting together a package of four drama series and a miniseries — a total of some 60 episodes — that would be taken out to the VOD and cable space, with Netflix, Amazon and WGN America rumored as potential candidates. Feelers had been send out, and I hear there’s already interest from digital platforms and traditional cable networks in the package, which I hear is in very early stages with very little talent attached. Reps for Marvel refused any comment’.
Its currently unknown which characters will be featured in these potential series but Marvel has avast array to choose from and have recently re-acquired the rights to Blade, Daredevil, Punisher and Ghost Rider. Its very exciting to speculate which characters will receive their own series and it’s likely that at least one of Marvel’s re-acquired properties will be used, fingers crossed for a Daredevil series.
