I still find it rather puzzling that Pete Travis’ DREDD pretty much died at the box-office. Particularly in the US. I certainly think the acclaimed success and earlier release of martial-arts epic THE RAID and its similar plot approach (despite DREDD being completed even before that film had begun) was the cause. It was expected to be the launch of a brand new franchise with Karl Urban perfectly cast as Mega City One’s fearsome Judge, Jury and Executioner. Failure at the box-office put paid to that idea… or has it?!
Since the DVD and Blu-ray release, DREDD has since found a new lease of life. Becoming a deserving cult on the home entertainment and video on-demand. Urban has also openly admitted to being desperate to return as the beloved 2000A.D. antihero. Now the comic-book publishers of the futuristic lawman have created an official petition in an effort to convince Lionsgate Films they’re is an audience waiting for DREDD 2. It currently has well over 10,000 signatures and you too can join in and sign the petition by clicking here, as well as the Facebook page “Bring Back Dredd”.
Make it happen guys. He Is The Law!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
