After last nights trailer release of Neill Blomkamp’s sci-fi epic, ELYSIUM, the film has risen to the top of my list of must see movies this summer. Matt Damon headlines as Max, a man living on a decimated future Earth in the year 2159. He accepts a daunting mission to bring equality to two polarised worlds after the wealthy have left the planet in ruin and escaped to live on a beautiful and tranquil man-made space station in the outer atmosphere.
The footage in the trailer looks stunning, including some genuinely breathtaking visuals and with a plot, once again like Blomkamp’s previous sci-fi thriller DISTRICT 9, having something serious to say about the world we live in today and our history. Check out these awesome new stills for the film co-starring Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, William Fichtner, Wagner Moura and arriving in the US on the 9th August, and the UK on the 20th September.
Check out the official website at www.itsbetterupthere.com for more details on the plot and characters.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
