It has been a few years now since the dramatic death of Daniel Craig’s iteration of James Bond in No Time To Die, and rumors about the next actor in the role started before it even released. With the character dying on screen for the first time, however, there’s now an opportunity to reinvent the role from scratch. So what can we expect from Bond movies in the future?
Hi-Tech
Bond movies have always done two things: reflect the time they are made, and dabble in some fantastical technology. Given how much brand-new technology has emerged just in the time since the last movie, we should expect technology to play a major role in any future Bond film. Interestingly, it wouldn’t just be the gadgets this time, as even Bond hallmarks like his high-roller casino lifestyle will have seen some major updates.
After all, there’s a reason online casino guides teaching new players about slots or roulette have become so common now. Modern casinos, both offline and online, are all about technology these days, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see plotlines integrating this. Could an online casino experience be worked into a new story?
Representation
For the entirety of the character’s history, Bond has been a white, British male. This was how the character was originally written by author Ian Fleming back in the 1950s, but given that so much of the original character has changed in the 70 years since then, many believe this detail could be up for interpretation as well to include more representation.
Even before Daniel Craig stepped into the tuxedo, one of the leading actors pegged for the role was veteran actor Idris Elba. While Craig eventually got the part, and Elba is likely now too old for the role, there’s now a window for a British actor from another ethnic background to start out. Many have also promoted the idea of a female Bond, with Lashana Lynch already playing Agent 007 before, if not Bond specifically.
Style
If there’s one Bond feature we’re certain will never change, it’s the impeccable sense of style and fashion. The agent has always been associated with only the top brands, particularly with clothing, accessories and vehicles. For example, the Aston Martin brand has been connected with Bond for decades now with the most recent film featuring several models from throughout franchise history.
Interestingly, while most things around Bond have moved on and even the cars have the latest innovations under the hood, the aesthetic is still likely to stick to that old-fashioned style for the character himself. What could be fascinating is seeing how a changed world would treat a character who may feel like a relic because of this.
The one thing that everyone is agreed on is that No Time To Die is not the end of Bond. Many believe we’re on the verge of a new actor being announced and we could be seeing the legend return in just a couple of years.
