The official competition has been announced for this year’s Cannes Film Festival, the 77th edition. As revealed earlier, Yorgos Lanthimos’ new film Kinds of Kindness will play alongside new works from the likes of Francis Ford Coppola. Andrea Arnold, Ali Abbasi (The Apprentice – pictures), Sean Baker, Palo Sorrentino, Jacques Audiard, Guy Maddin, Leos Carax and Paul Schrader.
Out of competition sees the new Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga film play alongside Kevin Costner’s Horizon: An American Saga.
Iris Knobloch, President and Thierry Frémaux, General Delegate, announced the Official Selection of the 77th Festival de Cannes, during the press conference on April 11, 2024 earlier this morning in France.
George Lucas will be handed an honourary Palme d’Or.
Greta Gerwig is head of the jury this year. The festival runs from 14th to 25th May.
