Blumhouse and Lionsgate to reimagine ‘The Blair Witch Project’

The new movie will reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation.

The CinemaCon event in Las Vegas continues and here is some news about a new ‘Blair Witch Project’ movie coming from the glitzy city in Nevada. It is being reported that Blumhouse and Lionsgate are teaming up to produce a new reimagining of the ’90s movie, we presume for a 25th-anniversary release timed for next year.

The Blair Witch Project was released in 1999. Written, edited and directed by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez, the film was a monster hit and helped form the found footage genre we’ve seen done in the two and a half decades since.

Deadline reports that the project is the first in a new pact between Blumhouse and Lionsgate. The new version of ‘Blair Witch’ will “reintroduce this horror classic for a new generation,” according to Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group making the announcement in Vegas this week.

More as it comes in.
