‘Cliffhanger’ sequel gets a new director

The original film was a huge hit back in the 1990s.

The planned Cliffhanger sequel has bagged itself a new director. The film, which will see the return of Sylvester Stallone’s Gabe Walker, was set to be helmed by Ric Roman Waugh but now it looks like Jean-François Richet will take the reigns of the new movie, as per Screen Daily.

News also comes that the film will kick off shooting next summer supposedly for a 2025 release. Mark Bianculli (The Good Neighbor, White Smoke) wrote the screenplay for the feature.

The trade says that half of the filming will take place in Italy next summer. They also have a brief outline.

When Gabe and a high-profile client are taken hostage during an adventurous weekend trip, his daughter has to use all her climbing skills to outwit the kidnappers, triggering a battle of life and death.

Stallone leads the cast with the film set in Italy’s Dolomites.

Richet helmed the fantastic Mesrine: Killer Instinct and last year’s Gerard Butler-led action belter Plane.
