Shane Meadows’ ‘Dead Man’s Shoes’ is returning to cinemas

One of Shane Meadows’ best work, the dark thriller Dead Man’s Shoes, is set to return to cinemas later this year. Blue Finch Films will screen the film on 15 September, including 35mm screenings in some locations.

Richard (Paddy Considine) has always protected his little brother Anthony (Toby Kebbell). Richard is strong and fair, while the loving and gentle Anthony is simple minded. When Richard leaves the rural village where they have grown up, to join the army, Anthony is taken in by Sonny (Gary Stretch), a controlling and vicious local drug dealer, and his gang of lads. Anthony becomes the gang’s pet and plaything, as they initiate him into their sordid worldly ways. Seven years later Richard returns for revenge.

The re-release will be nationwide with Dead Man’s Shoes also playing as part of the BFI Southbank’s ‘Acting Hard’ season on 12 September where Shane Meadows will be present for a Q&A.

This is absolutely great news as the film, originally released in 2004, is up there as one of the great 21st century British thrillers.
