New ‘Lord of the Rings’ films coming from Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. has announced that they will produce new films in The Lord Of The Rings franchise. The studio will back “multiple” films based on the beloved J. R. R. Tolkien books, so reports Variety.

New Line Cinema, a label belonging to WB will be behind the new movies, as they were the initial Peter Jackson films, which collectively brought in over $3 billion at the global box office. Jackson’s The Hobbit series matched that a few years later. There’s no word as to who will be involved filmmaker-wise with the new projects, but Jackson and his collaborators on the original series did have a comment.

They said:

Warner Brothers and Embracer have kept us in the loop every step of the way. We look forward to speaking with them further to hear their vision for the franchise moving forward.

New Line also has a feature animated film The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, currently set for release in 2024.
