For many years, the folks over at Last Exit To Nowhere have been designing and printing some absolutely cracking ‘homage’ t-shirts for beloved movies and TV shows both present day, and of yesteryear. Established in 2007, the company is one of the most popular of its kind online, and it is easy to see why – loved by film fans, film critics, and even some of the filmmakers themselves. As we continue our Christmas Gift Guide, we thought we’d delve into their current festive range to see what they have on offer and what you should be asking for in your festive stocking this year.
Full disclosure – we are not affiliated with Last Exit To Nowhere, have not been paid to post this article, or receive a commission for items purchased – we’re just huge fans and wanted to share some of their fantastic work and include them in our annual gift guide.
Our top five festive faves:
Christmas VHS
Featuring spines of VHS copies of Christmas classics like Batman Returns, Gremlins, Trading Places, It’s A Wonderful Life, and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, this festive ‘T’ has to rank at the top of the list. As well as the aforementioned, it also includes Die Hard which is not only a Christmas movie, but THE Christmas movie. Priced from £22
Die Hard Is A Christmas Movie
Further clarification of the above comes with this unique Christmas T-shirt, also priced at £22, which will no doubt cause some debate with the lesser informed family members this holiday season. This is just one of the many Die Hard-themed T-shirts Last Exit To Nowhere offers. There’s even one adorned with the logo for The Asian Dawn Movement, one of the ‘terrorist organisations; Hans Gruber mentioned in his list of demands in the original movie.
Duke and Duke
As with all of the ‘Last Exit’ products, the more obscure the better – but when you know, you know, and this little cracker tipping its hat to Trading Places is one that is going on my list this year. ‘Advertising’ the commodities company owned by Randall and Mortimer Duke, the duo who drop their cruel scheme on Eddie Murphy’s Billy Ray Valentine and Dan Aykroyd’s Louis Winthorpe III, the director of Duke and Duke, this stunning black number is also part of the new Christmas range.
Little Nero’s Pizza
Probably the most obscure on this list is Little Nero’s Pizza, the fictitious Italian fast-food company as seen in the very first, and obviously best, Home Alone movie. I am ashamed to say that I had to do a quick online search for the origins of this one, but as soon as I saw the clip in which Little Nero’s features in the film, the penny dropped….
The Night The Reindeer Died
This should be top of my list, actually. I met the great man Lee Majors earlier this year, and working with him was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. He was an absolute hero back in the ’80s to me – not for The Six Million Dollar Man, but for the awesome Hollywood-set action show, The Fall Guy. This T-shirt doesn’t refer to that series (though ‘Last Exit’ does one) but to that 1988 Bill Murray classic, Scrooged. ‘The Night The Reindeer Died’ is, of course, the fictional event movie that Murray’s TV chief Frank Cross has in store for his Christmas Eve audience.
All of these are available from Last Exit To Nowhere. Now, to sign off, one of the great moments from the aforementioned Scrooged.
