Road to Grimmfest: Interview with ‘Val’ Director Aaron Fradkin and actor Misha Reeves

Val screens at Grimmfest 2021 on 8th October 2021

From 7th to 10th October, Manchester’s Odeon Great Northern will get rather spooky as Grimmfest descended for its annual festival of the macabre. This year the event turns thirteen, and to make sure that everyone in the UK has the opportunity to experience and enjoy the festival, the organisers will be running it in two halves. The first will be the physical event taking place at Great Northern, the second will happen online running from 14th to 17th October. Over the course of both components, audiences are going to be treated to a plethora of great new genre content, one such film being Val.

Co-written by Aaron Fradkin and Victoria Fratz, and directed by Fradkin, Val is a horror comedy that will keep viewers on their toes. Fin (Zachary Mooren), a desperate criminal on the run, invades the home of high-class escort Val (Misha Reeves) in the hopes of evading the police. He quickly realises that his haven is anything but, with there being more to Val than meets the eye. Val offers a quirky blend of horror elements and humour, conjuring up feelings of both Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead and Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice. It also features an excellent star turn from Misha Reeves as Val, a character that is a potent mix of old school Hollywood glamour, an unhinged personality, and danger.

In addition to screening for UK audiences at Grimmfest, Val will arrive in selected US cinemas on 1st October, with a digital release on the 5th October, and a Blu-ray out on 2nd November. Ahead of Val’s entry into the wider world, we jumped on a Zoom call with both Aaron Fradkin and Misha Reeves to uncover more about the making of Val.

Val screens at Grimmfest 2021 on 8th October 2021. Tickets for the festival can be purchased here. In America, Val will be available in select theaters on 1st October, On-Demand on 5th October, with a Blu-ray set to be released on 2nd November.
