Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn, and Jason Isaacs also star.

A new WWII movie titled Operation Mincemeat has been announced by Warner Brothers for release in January of next year. Based on the best-selling book by Ben MacIntyre and brought to the big screen by the Oscar-winning director John Madden (Shakespeare in Love), and the producers behind The Kings Speech, Operation Mincemeat is the extraordinary and true story of the most successful wartime deception ever attempted, and one that changed the course of the Second World War. The film is produced by See-Saw Films and Cohen Media Group in association with Archery Pictures.

Starring an all-British cast led by Colin Firth, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Penelope Wilton, Johnny Flynn, and Jason Isaacs.

The film also stars Hattie Morahan , Simon Russell Beale, Paul Ritter, James Fleet, and Mark Gatiss.

Producers are Charles S. Cohen, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman and Kris Thykier. Simon Gillis, See-Saw’s COO of Film, will serve as executive producer. Michelle Ashford (‘Masters of Sex’) has adapted the screenplay based on the best-selling Ben McIntyre book of the same name. Jina Jay led casting.
FilmNation Entertainment handled international sales for the film.

Here’s the synopsis: It’s 1943. The Allies are determined to break Hitler’s grip on occupied Europe and plan an all-out assault on Sicily; but they face an impossible challenge – how to protect a massive invasion force from potential massacre. It falls to two remarkable intelligence officers, Ewen Montagu (Colin Firth) and Charles Cholmondeley (Matthew Macfadyen), to dream the most inspired and improbable disinformation strategy of the war – centred on the most unlikely of secret agents: a dead man.
