Marisol Nichols is best known to modern audiences for her work as Hermoine Lodge on Riverdale, but now finds herself in the clutches of Jigsaw in Spiral: From the Book of Saw. Spiral puts Nichols right in the thick of the action and sees her act alongside two of Hollywood’s most established stars, Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson. Originally meant for release last May, Spiral: From the Book of Saw finally arrives in cinemas on Monday 17th May. It’ll be one of the first new movies released since cinemas were forced to close late last year, and fans have been getting very excited about another whirl through the world of Saw. The film marks the ninth movie in the series and sees a shift in tone and style.
This time, the new Jigsaw wants to reform the force with their own brand of justice, shifting focus from elaborate traps aimed at criminals and addicts, to devious devices targeting the workers at police department rife with corruption. Heading up the target police institution is Marisol Nichols’ Captain Angie Garza. Garza is one tough cookie, and she really needs to be as the men under her power aren’t exactly unified. Division has arisen after Chris Rock’s Detective Banks caused waves by reporting the bad behaviour of a fellow officer. This feud is further exacerbated upon Jigsaw’s arrival and it’s left to Garza to keep everyone on the same page, whilst at the same time keeping herself out of Jigsaw’s line of fire.
Ahead of Jigsaw’s triumphant return to cinema screens we caught up with Nichols to find out what it’s like working with Jackson and Rock, her first experience with the Saw franchise, and which Riverdale teen would be best equipped to survive one of Jigsaw’s dastardly traps.
Spiral: From the Book of Saw arrives in cinemas across the UK from Monday 17th May.
