The 5 Most Iconic Animals on Stage and Screen

Which star is your fave?

When it comes time to unwind and relax, there are tons of television shows, plays, musicals, and films to enjoy. Sometimes, the most memorable characters are not just the protagonists, but their pets as well.

Animal actors have touched our hearts for years, leaving behind a legendary filmography of movies we love to revisit again and again. Read on to see our picks for the top five animals on stage and screen that are most iconic.

1) Bruiser Woods From Legally Blonde

First up on our list has to be Bruiser Woods. This tiny little Chihuahua of Legally Blonde fame is the perfect companion to Elle Woods, the ever bubbly and pink-clad law student who teaches us all the power of staying true to yourself, even when that means being girly!

It doesn’t matter if he’s on stage or screen; Bruiser is always a featured part of Legally Blonde, and a total crowd favorite. In almost every iteration, he’ll be dressed up in matching outfits with Elle and is the perfect purse dog.

This tiny bundle of joy is definitely one of the most iconic pets around.

2) Sandy From The Curious Incident of The Dog in The Night-Time

Next up, is another little adorable pup, namely Sandy from The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. This little guy is the perfect emotional support animal for Christopher, the lead character of the show. Sandy is a great example of what an emotional support animal does, especially after the stressful events our autistic hero experiences.

Plus, Sandy’s presence onstage helps destigmatize emotional support dogs, which makes him even more iconic in our eyes. More people than ever before are signing up for esaregistration.org, all thanks to characters like Sandy.

Overall, Sandy is the perfect blend of heart, healing, and tiny golden fur. What more could you want from a Broadway star?

3) Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion From Game of Thrones

The third set of animals on our list hail from Westeros, and the fantastical world of Game of Thrones. Namely, the trio is the three dragons Daenerys Targaryen calls her children, Drogon, Rhaegal, and Viserion. These dragons have all been brilliantly realized by the HBO show in amazing CGI.

Regardless of the show’s controversial last season, no one can deny the visual splendor of these animals onscreen.

4) Salem From Sabrina The Teenage Witch

Fourth on our list, and the first feline friend of the group, is Salem Saberhagen from the beloved 90s television show Sabrina the Teenage Witch. This lovable and smart-mouthed black cat is arguably one of the most memorable parts of the series.

Voiced by Nick Bakay, Salem became one of the ways for the writers to inject wry and witty humor into the show. Salem is one of the reasons this series is irresistible, even after a few binge-watches.

5) Wilbur From Charlotte’s Web

Lastly, but certainly not least, if you’re going to talk about iconic animals on stage and screen you have to list Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web. Whether you watch the hand-drawn animated movie from 1973 or the “live-action” version featuring Dakota Fanning from 2006, audiences have fallen in love with this charming pig and his arachnid sidekick for years.

The adorable lilt in his voice coupled with his big heart make him one of the most adorable animals you’ve ever seen.

Which Star Is Your Favorite?

Whether scaley or furry, these lovable pets have carved out a big place in our hearts. Whether they made quick cameos or play a huge role in the story, these animals are an important part of movie and theater history. That’s why we think they were the five most iconic pets around!
