Trailer and poster land for John Patrick Shanley’s ‘Wild Mountain Thyme’ with Emily Blunt

From the Oscar-winner behind Moonstruck.

Lionsgate has debuted the first trailer for John Patrick Shanley‘s next film, Wild Mountain Thyme, a feature that he wrote and directed, adapting from his own stage play ‘Outside Mullingar’. The film boasts quite the cast. Led by Emily Blunt, the likes of Jamie Dornan, Jon Hamm and Christopher Walker (complete with Irish accent) line up for the piece, which is coming soon.

The story is set against the breath-taking landscapes of rural Ireland, where everyone is half mad with loneliness or love, and the weather is terrible. Those are not my words, but from the official release that we just received from the distributor. Shanley is quite the talent, a Pulitzer Prize, Oscar and Tony award winner. He helmed the superb Moonstruck with Nicolas Cage and Cher, a film which bagged him the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.

His last film was released back in 2008, and was the terrific Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis-starring Doubt. Again it was a screen work adapted from his stage play, ‘Doubt: A Parable’.

Here’s the synopsis for his new one.

Anthony and Rosemary are star-crossed lovers, whose families are caught up in a feud over a hotly contested patch of land that separates their two farms. Anthony (Dornan) always seems to be out in the fields working, worn down by his father’s constant belittling. But what really stings is his father’s threat to bequeath the family farm to his American cousin Adam. Rosemary (Blunt) at first seems to hold a grudge for having been shamed by Anthony in childhood, but the sparks between them would keep a bonfire blazing through the night. Her mother Aoife strives to unite the families before it is too late. Just when we think Anthony will pluck up the courage to face up to his repressed feelings, cousin Adam (Hamm) steps in with a plan to sweep Rosemary off her feet, romancing her over a magical 24 hours in Manhattan. But true love is never defeated!

The trailer for Wild Mountain Thyme has just gone live over on Lionsgate’s YouTube channel, and you can watch it below. We’re hearing a UK release in 2021, but it does land on select US screens from 11th December.
