The 6 Best Video Game Movies of All Time

Detective Pikachu and Tomb Raider are in there.

It’s time for you to drop the controller and get hold of the popcorn, as you enjoy the best video game movies.

The popularity of video games has only accelerated in the last decade and this is partly due to how accessible they are. They’ve progressed at a rapid rate and you can now stream your favorite games and watch the professionals take the controller, being a non-stop source of entertainment. Games like CS:GO have even been responsible for a sub-genre of games and at sites like CSGOBook.com you can play the latest CSGO gambling games where you can gamble skins or real money to upgrade your items or purchase new ones, which you can then go on to use in game.

The development of the video game movies has been very steady. Something that used to be seen as cheerful and cheap spin offs, have graduated into a situation where the movie studios are now coming to terms with the fact that there is an avalanche of amazing stories that has an already made audience out there, as they watch the success of the comic books. In the best video game movies, the magic and essence of the stories they are adapted from are captured and a new vista given to our cherished and despised characters.

In the list of the 6 best video game movies, we will be applauding titles like the great comedy piece, Detective Pikachu, the Resident Evil concept that has up to six movies made about it, and even the Sonic the Hedgehog’s 2020 adaptation that seemed to be on the wrong route in all ramifications before a total overhaul that made it the darling of many. In this list, you can enjoy an amazing amount of nostalgia if you like and also enjoy the hot aspect of video game movies.

Warcraft

It was just the right time for Hollywood to pick up the World of Warcraft. Having been seen as something in the caliber of the Lord of the Rings, this game that shines out among the titles from Blizzard comes full of features, as guided by the magic hands of Duncan Jones. This stands as the best performing video game adaptation of all time because it grossed up to $433m, and also markets the World of Warcraft like nothing else – a very beautiful thing.

The level of embellishment and exaggeration in the movie could be described as too much by many, but it still stands head over heels above the other video game movies of its time. It had no problems taking a leap into the dark, by doling out a very huge amount to get an acclaimed director, and allowing him the free hand to torment the world with amazing ideas. They need to be complemented, please.

Sonic the Hedgehog

At first, Sonic the Hedgehog did not come across as promising. The initial designs came with a blue blur that fans hated, and this pushed the filmmakers back to the trenches. At the official and final release of the movie, it became a darling of many movie lovers when they witnessed the very enticing voice over work by Ben Schwartz and the role played by Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik. The movie is all about Sonic and a Montana Sheriff, and chronicles their efforts to evade Robotnik and recover Sonic’s iconic rings. They are already working on the sequels as we write.

Resident Evil

This subject has a lot of movies to it. At the last count, they are already up to 5, and this makes it difficult to choose one of them to talk about. They range from the one that deals with afterlife to the current one, which we see as the best.  Here, the movie is centered on the sprawling lore of Resi, and lays more emphasis on the action. Some people may love this, but the slow burn experience on a mansion could never have been as entertaining and kinetic as this initial effort, and that is why we still hold this in high esteem and name it the best in the series and one of the best video game movies.

Here, Milla Jovovish plays the character of Alice in an excellent manner (and many people still believe that she has not gotten the credit she deserves) with swift and thick set pieces. The fact that the title was also planning on delivering some sequels and a sprawling universe even before the Avengers initiative was heard by Iron Man makes it worth the whole hype.

Assassins Creed

The assassin’s creed felt like the title that ushered video game movies into the limelight. In the beginning, most of those that came before it or with it were waved off as something meant for a particular audience or some form of oddities, but Assassins Creed succeeded in laying that to rest with a very huge storyline that chronicles the ever existent struggle between the Templar Order and the Creed.

The movie is full of stars, as it parades names like Michael K. Williams, Marion Cotillard, and Michael Fassbender. This stamps the movie with huge legitimacy; with a very exciting animus adventure that took place in 15th century Spain flanking it, and a parkour-heavy style that edified the series without stretching the fan service. Some filmgoers and fans may have been disappointed by it, but when you check again, you will see that it is top notch in all angles.

Tomb Raider (2018)

This follows the footsteps of the 2013 game and comes back to the screen with a completely new image of Lara. The resultant movie cannot be regarded as one of the greatest action flicks, but the game stands as one of the best in its generation.

Now, the movie may not be exact with the game in everything, but the character of Lara was well played by the lively and interesting Alicia Vikander. The character seemed to be more at home in London than riding through the tombs in the lost kingdom. Tomb Raider was actually the video game movie that separated things and placed them in proper perspective, as the concept decided not to be relegated to the background any longer. Here, it made a very grand and significant entry, full of star talents that are capable of opening the door for more video game treasures in the long run, especially in the forthcoming sequel that was directed by Ben Wheatley

Detective Pikachu

This is the best in the list. Once we realized that it is the DeadPool himself that would voice the fuzzy little yellow guy, it became clear to us that the fortunes of the Pokémon brand would be aided by Detective Pikachu. The movie that was voiced by Ryan Reynolds centers on the 21-year-old guy named Tim Goodman. His ambition was to search for and find Henry, his private investigator dad that went missing, and to achieve this, he had to team up with Pikachu. Here, you will come in contact with a lot of GGi, a lot of sentiments, and a lot of comedy sessions to get you going.

This film was directed by the same Rob Letterman that directed Goosebumps, and the cast is made up of people like DJ Diplo, Ken Watanabe, Bill Nighy, and Rita Ora. But above all these, the compassion, care, and love that Pokémon go world received from the fans makes it outstanding.
