We’ve just received word from Lionsgate that their well-received biopic Ride Like A Girl will receive a DVD and digital release in August. directorial debut from Rachel Griffiths whose progressive casting allows Stephen Payne to play himself as ‘Stevie’, Michelle Payne’s real-life older brother with Down’s Syndrome. The film was nominated for the AACTA Award For Film and AACTA Award for Best Original Music Score.
Also amongst the cast are Teresa Palmer and Sam Neill.
The inspiring film tells the triumphant true story of Michelle Payne, the first ever woman jockey to win the Melbourne Cup – horse racing’s toughest 2-mile race – in 2015! One of 10 children, Michelle succeeded in her career as a jockey and overcame tremendous emotional and physical hurdles with the support of her family, including her brother, Stevie Payne, who has Down’s Syndrome, and who actually plays himself in the film.
No news on bonus materials yet but the film will be available on digital and DVD from 10th August.
