Looking at the ground-breaking effects used in Martin Scorsese’s ‘The Irishman’

The Irishman final trailer

Netflix

The Irishman is undoubtedly one of the best films of 2019. The Netflix-funded epic starring the likes of Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci, Al Pacino, and Harvey Keitel also featured some of the most ground-breaking and expensive digital effects ever used in film. They are so good that it is sometimes hard to distinguish when and where they are being used. Luckily, Netflix has just released a new video showing off said effects. The 13-minute featurette has just been uploaded onto their YouTube channel and deep dives into the technology used in the three and a half hour Martin Scorsese crime drama.

Robert De Niro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci star in Martin Scorsese’s THE IRISHMAN, an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America told through the eyes of World War II veteran Frank Sheeran, a hustler and hitman who worked alongside some of the most notorious figures of the 20th century. Spanning decades, the film chronicles one of the greatest unsolved mysteries in American history, the disappearance of legendary union boss Jimmy Hoffa, and offers a monumental journey through the hidden corridors of organized crime: its inner workings, rivalries and connections to mainstream politics.

The Irishman is now streaming on Netflix and is nominated in multiple categories at this weekend’s big Goldne Globes event. Watch the VFX video below.
