New ‘Star Wars’ Movies Announced – ‘Avatar 2’ Pushed Back A Year

Disney have put their cards on the table and announced a further three movies in the Star Wars universe, but it looks like they are a little way off. The Mouse House has revealed that a new Star Wars movie will hit cinemas on December 16th, 2022, with two more coming our way on December 20th, 2024 and December 18th, 2026.

With the announcement, late on Tuesday, came no confirmation as to what those movies would be, but we’re guessing that they will be a combination of the films in the pipeline from Rian Johnson (who has a trilogy in the works with the studio), and the planned three films from Game Of Thrones’ David Benioff and D.B. Weiss.

The next Star Wars movie to hit cinemas will be the last in the Skywalker saga, Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker, which will land this coming December.

The years in between will be filled by Avatar sequels, the first hitting cinemas on December 17th, 2021 instead of December 18th, 2020, which was its original release. The sequels to Avatar 2 are planned to hit cinemas on December 22nd, 2023, December 19the, 2025, and December 17th, 2027.

No explanation has been given for the delay to the Avatar sequels, but James Cameron confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday.

More on both series as we get it.
