Acclaimed Cannes 2018 Film ‘LETO’ Heading To MUBI In August

We’ve just received word that the acclaimed Cannes 2018 entry LETO is heading to streaming service MUBI this summer. The film is directed by Kirill Serebrennikov and features the music of Iggy Pop, Talking Heads and Lou Reed.

MUBI

If you’re unfamiliar with the film, which screened in-competition in Cannes last year, here’s the official synopsis.

An underground rock band in 1980s Russia navigate a love triangle and the confines of creative censorship in Soviet Russia. Caught between musical passion, yearning romantic desire and a changing political landscape, the band tries to rise from their humble underground performances to make it big.

This freewheeling biopic of legendary Soviet rock musician Viktor Tsoi dives headfirst into the underground music scene of 1980s Leningrad, blurring the line between fantasy and reality and excitedly fusing Soviet post-punk with spirited, colourful, rock hit musical sequences.

The official release, which I’ve just recieved, says that the film riffs off Michael Winterbottom’s 24 Hour Party People by way of Todd Haynes’s I’m Not There, which makes me really excited ti see it. It will bow in cinemas and on MUBI from 16th August of this year.

Here’s on of the trailers (in its native language) currently playing online for the film.
