It has been confirmed that Val Kilmer is set to reprise his role as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in the sequel to the 1986 modern classic Top Gun. TheWrap reports the news of Kilmer’s casting in the film, which is being referred to as Top Gun: Maverick.
Tom Cruise is back as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, who is now a mentor to a new generation of U.S. Navy fighter pilots.
Back last week, Cruise posted a single set image signalling the very first day of shooting, and now it looks like the rest of the cast are beginning to fall in to place.
Paramount hasn’t confirmed Kilmer’s casting, but the actor has reportedly been seen in the area of a hotel that the production has been using over in San Diego.
Joseph Kosinski is directing Top Gun: Maverick from a script by Eric Warren Singer, Peter Craig and Justin Marks.
More as it comes in.
