‘Streetcat Bob’ Launches Animated Web Series

Shooting Script Films and King Rollo Films are launching Streetcat Bob, an animated web series inspired by the incredible, real-life story of the stellar ginger cat from the hit film A Streetcat Named Bob.

Shooting Script Films and King Rollo Films have announced the release of their new animated series Streetcat Bob inspired by the true life story of James Bowen and his beloved stray, Bob, that will follow his adventures with his furry friends. Based on the hit film A Streetcat Named Bob, the initial run of four 90 second webisodes are being launched weekly via the new website, and YouTube Channel, the first episode is available now.

Written and created by Debbie Macdonald (Peppa Pig, Ben and Holly’s Little Kingdom) and Garry Jenkins (A Street Cat Named Bob), Streetcat Bob is a charming new chapter in the James and Bob story, aimed at a preschool audience.

Bob was rescued by busker and Big Issue seller James Bowen in 2007 when James found him injured. Since then, the pair have been inseparable, appearing first on the streets of London, then as the subjects of a series of books, most famously A Street Cat Named Bob, which went on to major motion picture success. Still wearing his trademark scarf, the irrepressible feline is now taking centre stage in an animated web series.

The shorts have been animated by the BAFTA-winning King Rollo Films (Maisy, HUMF) and produced by Adam Rolston and Luke Melia at Shooting Script Films, the company behind the big screen adaptation of A Street Cat Named Bob. James Bowen has acted as Executive Producer.

James Bowen, author of A Street Cat Named Bob said “Bob and I are proud to be launching StreetCat Bob on our digital hub. It’s been inspired by the positive messages of inclusion, kindness – and fun – in our children’s books.”

Leo Neilsen, Managing Director at King Rollo Films said “King Rollo Films have worked on some great animation projects, but Streetcat Bob is special. The backstory is unique and has touched people all over the world. Working with the original producers of the feature film and Bob himself, it is our privilege to be able to take these characters into animation.”

Adam Rolston, Head Producer at Shooting Script Films said “Shooting Script is delighted to be continuing our involvement with James and Streetcat Bob, and working with established pre-school partners like King Rollo and Debbie Macdonald. We hope our animated series can bring James and Bob’s wonderful message of friendship and inclusion to children and children at heart everywhere.”
