A remake of the 1980s Dolly Parton movie 9-5 is on the way potentially with a screenplay co-written by Rashida Jones, so reports Deadline. The trade reports that plans are in place over at 20th Century Fox to bring an update of the 1980 film to the screen. The original followed employees of a sexist, egotistical, lying, hypocritical bigot who find a way to turn the tables on him. Dolly Parton, Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin played the three women at the heart of the story.
The new version will would focus on three young women dealing with sexism and chauvinism in the workplace, who turn to the original trio for help in navigating and getting even with the course male higher-ups. Parton, Fonda and Tomlin are are reportedly keen to return.
Jones is the target for the studio to write the screenplay for the new film, with creator Pat Resnick in talks to also work on the script.
