Streaming subscribers will soon be able to catch his sell-out stand-up Humanity, but another Ricky Gervais Netflix special is on the way, so says the man himself. The news originates from Gervais’ own Twitter feed, which was picked up by Deadline, and reveals that an as yet to be decided special will head to the streaming giant sometime this year. The big news is that Gervais wants his fans to be involved in regards to the theme.
A second Ricky Gervais Netflix special is on the way
Ricky Gervais’ comedy stand-up Humanity toured the world last year and was filmed for Netflix at Hammersmith’s Eventim Apollo. It is reportedly hitting the streamer during the first quarter of 2018, but there are plans for a new special later in the year. Here’s what Gervais had to say on Twitter.
As you may have read, Netflix have bought two stand up specials. The first, Humanity, which I have toured and filmed. And the second, which I haven’t even thought about yet. Any suggestions for a theme or title? pic.twitter.com/8PqKQyUQtT

The comedian is rallying up his 12.9 million Twitter followers to help him come up with a theme for the new show, which we expect he’ll be filming at some point this year. According to the report at Deadline, the new Ricky Gervais Netflix special will indeed be a stand-up, very much like Humanity which played to multiple international cities in 2017.

“I want to call myself a stand-up now,” Gervais said in an interview with Jim Norton and Sam Roberts on US satellite broadcaster Sirius XM (where he also has his own show) . “I don’t want to call myself a comedian or writer-director.”
“That’s why it’s been seven years [since his previous stand-up tour], because I always thought that it was the third string to my bow. And it got put back, more important things came along, a sitcom or a film …”
Humanity was reportedly sold for the highest fee ever paid for a UK stand-up special. We can’t wait to see it.
