Suicide Squad, End Of Watch and Fury director David Ayer will not helm the Scarface remake over at Universal Pictures. The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision reports the news of Ayer’s departure, which is being put down to aggressive schedule for the planned film.
Ayer is a busy boy with pop-production on his Will Smith/ Joel Egerton Netflix actioner Bright to complete, and then the Suicide Squad spin-off Gotham City Sirens being lined up over at Warner Brothers too. He is also looking at a remake of The Wild Bunch over at WB. Heat Vision added that Ayer’s screenplay for a Los Angeles-set reimagining of Scarface was too dark for their tastes, which baffles us considering the ton and blood-soaked gore of Brian De Palma’s 1983 redo.
Diego Luna is attached to the new remake of Scarface and now a new director will obviously be sought. We’ll bring you more as we get it.
