In the least surprising news of the week, it has been made official that Ron Howard will direct the Han Solo Star Wars spin-off for Lucasfilm, taking over duties from the recently departed Phil Lord and Chris Miller.
Howard was instantly linked with the Star Wars gig right after news broke of Lord and Miller’s departure, and we even crafted an article around it, but now it is official as the news made its way onto the official Star Wars website starwars.com.
The news came with an official statement from Lucasfilm president, Kathleen Kennedy.
“At Lucasfilm, we believe the highest goal of each film is to delight, carrying forward the spirit of the saga that George Lucas began forty years ago,” said Kennedy. “With that in mind, we’re thrilled to announce that Ron Howard will step in to direct the untitled Han Solo film. We have a wonderful script, an incredible cast and crew, and the absolute commitment to make a great movie. Filming will resume the 10th of July.”
The Han Solo movie, which is still untitled despite web rumours, has a released date set for May 25th, 2018.
