Joel Kinnaman talks ‘Suicide Squad 2’ filming

The fifth season of House Of Cards has just hit Netflix worldwide and one of the stars of the show, Joel Kinnaman, has been out and about on the press tour answering questions on the new series of the hit political drama. As well as that, he’s also fielded questions on the state of the next Suicide Squad movie, which has been on the cards since the first one came out nearly a year ago.

Speaking to The Live Feed, Kinnaman updated us with regards to the state of Suicide Squad 2, and when he hopes to start filming it. Here’s what he had to say:

“As far as I know they’re writing the script and I think the plan is to shoot it sometime in 2018, but that could change. I think I’ll definitely come back for it.”

The first film’s director David Ayer is one that probably one who will not return as he’s off working on another DC project, Gotham City Sirens, which focusses on the female DC villains, headed by Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Kinnaman also commented on potential directors to replace Ayer on the Suicide Squad follow-up.

“Ultimately, I’d love for David Ayer to direct it, but if he doesn’t want to direct it then someone who is great with character and that’s able to ground the story and maybe put these characters in a more normal situation. It would be really interesting to see these crazy characters interact with regular people as well.”

Directors linked to the project include the likes of Mel Gibdon, but we’ve heard nothing solid in respect to a new helmer for a couple of months now. Adam Cozad is reportedly still working on the screenplay for Warner Brothers.

Obviously we’ll bring you more as it is fired our way. More from the interview with Kinnaman at the end of the link above.
