Last night, in a glittering ceremony in Hollywood, the 89th Academy Awards were dished out, and there were many surprises. The winner of the big award on the evening was Moonlight, which bagged Best Picture after a little confusion right at the very end of the show. Casey Affleck won Best Actor for Manchester By The Sea while Emma Stone won Best Actress for her stunning performance in La La Land. Mahershali Ali picked up Best Supporting Actor for his work on Moonlight, while Viola Davis was awarded the Best Supporting Actress award for Fences.
In directing, Damien Chazelle picked up the award for La La Land and became the youngest ever helmer to do so. Over all, his film managed to bag six awards out of the fourteen that it was nominated for.
In the other categories, Zootropolis (Zootopia) picked up Best Animated Film, while The Salesman was awarded Best Foreign Language Film.
Here are the rest of the winners in full – winners in bold and RED. For a full rundown of the evening’s events, do check out our Twitter page where we catalogued the events as they happened.
