Genius TV series: Geoffrey Rush will play Albert Einstein.
National Geographic will tack the Genius TV series, which will screen in 2017.
Academy Award winning actor Geoffrey Rush is set to play Albert Einstein in a new TV series entitled Genius. The new show will air on the National Geographic Channel in the US and will be a co-production between Fox 21 Television Studio, Imagine Television, OddLot Entertainment and EUE/Sokolow. The Genius TV series will air in 2017.
Ron Howard will step behind the camera and direct the first episode of the Genius TV series, which will be the first scripted TV show for the nature network, which will screen it in over 170 countries around the world.
Also amongst the cast is Johnny Flynn (Clouds of Sils Maria), who will play a younger Einstein. According to an official release, the 10-episode series will explore Einstein’s extraordinary scientific achievements, along with his volatile, passionate and complex personal relationships.
“The caliber of the ‘Genius’ cast lives up to the show’s title,” said Carolyn Bernstein, executive vice president and head of global scripted development and production, National Geographic Channel. “The supremely talented Geoffrey Rush is dream casting for the role of Albert Einstein, and Johnny Flynn not only is an incredible talent but also bears more than a passing resemblance to Rush. We couldn’t be more excited to get them to work with Ron and the rest of the team.”

Shooting is set to kick off in Prague next month with the series airing in 2017.
