Over the last few years it has become a trend to re-make the classic Disney animations of our childhood, into live action cinematic experiences. We’ve already seen Disney’s Cinderella come to life on screen and now it’s time for The Jungle Book to step into the live action spotlight.
With many rumours of even more Disney animations getting the live action treatment, Smartmobile Casino conducted a survey to find out what other classic Disney animations the public wanted to see brought to life.
Lion King
The Lion King is undeniably one of the most beloved Disney movies of all time, so it’s not surprising that it topped the list. Before the magic of CGI, it was unthinkable that this could ever be made into a more realistic film. However, with CGI making a huge leap forward, and The Jungle Book’s CGI being praised by critics, it’s possible that a CGI version could be made.
Aladdin
It’s surprising that Aladdin hasn’t yet been picked up for a live action remake, with it being another of Disney’s most popular animations as well as a high grossing broadway/west end musical. Aladdin would be a perfect addition to the Disney live action collection, including amazing songs, magic, romance and action.
Beauty and the Beast
It’s already been announced that Beauty and the Beast is getting a live action remake, with Harry Potter’s Emma Watson set to play Belle and Downton Abbey’s Dan Stevens cast as the Beast. This classic came in at number 3 on our poll and it could possibly be one of 2017’s biggest grossing movies.
Dumbo
One of the most emotional Disney movies ever made, Dumbo would be fantastic as either a CGI/live action remake, done in The Jungle Book style, or as a completely live action movie. Another one on the rumoured list, it was announced in 2015 that Tim Burton was attached to direct, but there has been little in the way of news since then.
Frozen
It would have been very surprising if the 2013 mega blockbuster hadn’t been mentioned in our list. It’s probably way too soon to say whether this will be made into a live action movie, but in a few years, it could definitely be a possibility. We’ll have to make do with the TBC Frozen 2 for now.
Bambi
Number 6 in our top 10 is Bambi, guilty of another emotional movie moment that devastated both children and adults worldwide. Unlike Dumbo, Bambi isn’t being rumoured for a re-make any time soon.
The Little Mermaid
Much like The Beauty and the Beast, The Little Mermaid is also currently in pre-production, looking set for a 2017 release. The live action re-make is rumoured to star Chloe Mortez as the titular character, but little is known about the rest of the cast.
Snow White
We’ve already had 2 remakes of the story Snow White, with their own respective unique spins on the classic fairytale. However, with both of those films receiving less than glowing reviews, the public have expressed an interest at seeing the Disney version of the story given another chance at the big screen.
Mulan
There has been a few reports floating around for a while about a potential Mulan re-make. The rumour also gained some traction after it was reported that fans of the original animation, were signing a petition to get Disney to cast an Asian actress in the titular role, despite no casting decisions being made public. Hopefully we will see Mulan in live action in the next few years as she is one of Disney’s strongest female characters.
Tangled
Along with Frozen, Disney’s Tangled was a hit at the box office and helped put faith back into the Disney animations, which had taken a dip after the 90’s. There is no news as to whether Rapunzel will get a live action makeover any time soon, but with the film only being released 5 years ago and a TV series in production we’ve probably got enough Tangled to last us a while.
A live-action re-make is the perfect way to give classic and much loved stories a modern and fresh twist. With at least 3 Disney animations looking set to be given the live-action treatment within the next 2 years, we’re sure we’ll soon see all of our old childhood films being brought to life by some of Hollywood’s finest.
