Beverley Knight Visits Memphis Ahead Of Upcoming Musical

With less than 2 months to go until its’ West End opening night, new musical Memphis has treated fans to a special featurette with leading lady Beverley Knight as she travels to the birth place of music; Memphis, Tennessee.

Knight, who made her west end debut as Rachel Marron in The Bodyguard, stars as Felicia, the club singer who wins the heart of DJ Huey Calhoun and sets in motion a musical revolution as the couple fly in the face of cultural divides to bring her music to the airwaves.

It’s been a hit on Broadway, where it ran for three years and won four Tony Awards including Best Musical. Bringing the musical over to the West End are director Christopher Ashley and choreographer Sergio Trujillo. It boasts an original score by David Bryan, a founding member of Bon Jovi, and book by Joe DiPietro.

Also featuring Killian Donnelly as radio DJ Huey Calhoun, Rolan Bell, Tyrone Huntley, Claire Machin, Jason Pennycooke and Mark Roper, Memphis begins performances at the Shaftesbury Theatre, London from 9 October 2014.
