Ian Solmerhalder Thinks ‘Vampire Diaries’ Could End After This Season

Last season’s ending of television show The Vampire Diaries was a bit of a kicker with some key characters not surviving it seems. The show, which is based in part on a series of books by author L. J Smith, started off rather slow and dreary back in season one. Since then though the show has managed to find it’s groove and given it’s break-neck pace of storytelling it is hard to believe that it is only in it’s sixth year.

The Kevin Williamson (he of Dawson’s Creek, and SCREAM fame) show, which airs on CW in the US and ITV2 in the UK will return to screens in October. To keep fans interested, and to answer the question of one character’s fate, a teaser for the new series has arrived online. Be warned though, only watch the below clip if you have seen the finale of season five as there are BIG spoilers ahead.

Although a very successful show, one of the main stars, Ian Solmerhalder, has alluded that this sixth season might very well be the last:

“It very well could be our last [season]. I think now that there’s a finality to it, everyone’s really realising that this is a very important time in our lives. We created some very cool storytelling.”

With the show not having yet aired an episode of the new series the network have obviously not commented as to how true Solmerhalder’s words are. It should be noted that previous ratings-winning show Supernatural was only ever written as far as season five, but has since continued on and will celebrate both its tenth season and 200th episode later this year. Of course if the likes of Nina Dobrev, Ian Solmerhalder and Paul Wesley were to exit I’m not too sure how much longer the show could last.

The Originals, a show which spun-off from The Vampire Diaries, will air it’s second season also from October (see it’s trailer here) and could continue the mantle were it’s big brother to exit the schedule.

well if it ends best for them. they will move on better things instead of go down the road of spn who continues to repeat the same storys over & over again with cr*** writing, no continuity or concistency (to both characters & storys) in regard of the already established mythology (s1-5)
