Here’s your first look at Benedict Cumberbatch in the upcoming THE IMITATION GAME. The pictures, courtesy of EW, show Cumberbatch in character as Alan Turing a crack code cracker of Nazi codes during WWII. Turing’s life was one of great tragedy as he took his own life at the age of 41 after being convicted of gross indecency for being a homosexual. Speaking to EW about the role, Cumberbatch seems in awe of his subject:
“He’s an exceptional man,” says Cumberbatch, who prepped for the role by perfecting Turing’s stuttering cadences and studying his correspondence with the mother of his high school crush. “I hope this film does justice to this unsung hero.”
It’s certainly a story that needs celebrating, as well as a reminder that for all the fighting done against the Nazis, equality was still just a fantasy for many parts of humanity in many different countries (and continues to be so). CUmberbatch is joined by co-stars Keira Knightley, Mark Strong, Matthew Goode, Rory Kinnear, Charles Dance, Allen Leech, and Matthew Beard.
THE IMITATION GAME is released in the UK on 14th November and in the US on the 21st November.
