Police Squad! Was from a time when spoof was the highest form of comedy. Spoof films weren’t just littered with pop culture references, but had jokes which were absolutely timeless. Just watch the show and see whether it or the likes of DISASTER MOVIE has aged worse. Police Squad! made the jump to the big screen seamlessly and since the series only ran for 6 episodes, there wasn’t too much material to just repeat. Many jokes did carry over well, but it was mostly Leslie Nielson’s deadpan performance that secured the success of both iterations. Like its preceding TV series, THE NAKED GUN: FROM THE FILES OF POLICE SQUAD! is also timeless comedy, mixing slapstick and nonsensical farce with some of the best delivered one liners you could imagine.
