Her action creds are on the rise following her turn in EDGE OF TOMORROW and now dividends could be paid with unconfirmed reports that Emily Blunt is sought for a part in BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE. Blunt was famously wanted for Black Widow in IRON MAN 2 before the role was filled by Scarlett Johansson so Marvel’s loss could become DC’s gain. With the Widow character being expanded across the AVENGERS and CAPTAIN AMERICA franchises there’s money in them thar spandex outfits, a temptation and a half for any performer despite the potential bodily constriction.
Though the actress is currently busier than a squirrel in a nut-cracking factory, becoming part of the highly-regarded wave of comic book universes is surely an attractive prospect (provided the material is good) and she is said to be in talks for an as-yet unspecified role. Catwoman has been mooted and with director Zack Snyder’s “everything but the kitchen sink” approach that’s not a remote possibility. Images from the set of a lethal playing card have given rise to potential Joker involvement, so it’s inevitable someone on the creative or commercial sides will be pushing for Selina Kyle to be in the frame. With Blunt being a well-liked personality both onscreen and off she could just as likely be up for a civilian role, gawping at the mayhem on behalf of us mere mortals.
We’ll see how and indeed if she fares when BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE is released next May.
