The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY are – shockingly – not a household name for a group that seem to have prominence over, well, the entire galaxy. Yet. If Marvel’s plans go as well as they hope, they soon will be. It’ll take a little bit more convincing to lure the uninitiated to the cinema to see Marvel’s summer blockbuster this year, or rather, those that aren’t usually pulled in by the ‘Marvel’ sticker placed before the superheroic space-opera.
However, Marvel’s head honcho Kevin Feige, director James Gunn and the protagonist of the film, Chris Pratt took some time out of their busy schedules this weekend to sit down and have a discussion explaining why you should see GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY in just a few months time (if not for the whole… y’know, following the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe continuity!)
As you’ll see if you decide to watch the interview below, Feige explains that IRON MAN wasn’t a household name before Marvel decided to take some risks and now, Iron Man is one of the most famous on-screen superheroes.
“We were excited about doing something frankly, that most people hadn’t heard of. And today everybody knows Iron Man, but that wasn’t necessarily the case.”
When prompted about how GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is a real roll of the dice, Feige said the following:
“I did a movie with a Norse God that holds a hammer for the whole movie. He comes from another planet. We did two of them… They all are.”
For those expecting to see a spoilerific breakdown of the film, you won’t get it. There may be, however, some foreshadowing going on as to the future of the MCU.
“It couldn’t be more distant in geography to the other films. 99% of this movie takes place on the other side of the galaxy. Nevermind the themes and character interaction… there are a handful of characters you’ll see in this movie that carry through to the broader threats that perhaps are facing our other characters here on Earth.”
The interview is definitely worth a watch, especially if you don’t know much about GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. We’re excited for it over here at THN and you should be too. For a start, you can watch the trailer right here. The GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY follows an unlikely band of galactic criminals that band together to combat an even greater threat.
It also features Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gillan, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel. GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY is set to hit cinemas this side of the universe on 1st August 2014.
