Tragic news surfaced last week about the death of 27 year-old camerawoman Sarah Jones, who was struck by a train while filming on the set of MIDNIGHT RIDER. She is to be honoured tomorrow by the International Cinematographers Guild and the Society of Camera Operators who are holding a candlelight vigil in Hollywood. The young filmmaker was struck by a train while filming a dream sequence for director Randall Miller’s MIDNIGHT RIDER, a biopic about singer Greg Allman. The crew were unaware that they were working on live train tracks. Following the tragedy the film has shut down production. Union members will meet at the IATSE Local 600 in front of the DGA building on 7920 Sunset Blvd. at 7 PM. They will walk from there to the ICG’s national offices on 7755 Sunset Blvd where a memorial will be held. Sarah’s parents are said to be in attendance and will fly down from South Carolina.

It’s hard to write about the death of someone you didn’t know; it’s impossible to do them justice, but it seems as though Sarah was living her dream, and that’s more than most of us can say. The tragedy of it serves as a strong reminder for production companies to monitor and ensure the safety of their crews.
